Mallala - 9^th & 10^th April 2005

The opening round of the Reece Bancell Trophy series at Mallala was hot, both the weather and the on track action. Rob Graham was on the loose with his camera to capture some of the behind the scenes action for us. Think of this as a pictorial essay about what goes on at a race meeting, aside from the obvious.

In the morning

Ronnie handles the paperwork	All bikes are scrutineered for safety	Helmets and leathers are also checked	The line of bikes seems endless
But eventually you get through	Then there's a riders briefing	The Clerk of the Course tells us how it's going to be	Reminds us about the flags and what they mean
After signing the attendance sheet we're ready to race

On the line

The bikes are wheeled into the form up area	Where riders wait until released	Head off for a sighting lap and are met with a red flag at the start line	Then are put in their places by the start line team
When everyone is in place	The warm up board is shown	Then row by row	They take off for a warm up lap
They return and its all eyes on the lights	Before the race can start personnel leave the track and the steps come up	When the red light goes out	The starter keeps a lap score and the clerk of course observes
Then the Last Lap board is displayed	Followed by the chequered flag	Its back to the pits	Nobody wants to come back behind the P76
But some still do

In the offices

The timekeeping team are hard at work	Providing results for Ronna to collate and copy	The race controller co-ordinates the marshalls and keeps a watchful eye	The commentator calls it how he sees it from on high
They do get a break for lunch

At the end of the day

Andy got a trophy	Two of them	Ronnie had a beer with Chris	Dennis got a trophy
Fred and Jo were happy	because Fred got a trophy too	Glen got one too	Sorry, forgot the name here
and again, but he likes it!	Kerry came a long way for her trophy	and had a well earned drink	Kym got a trophy
Chris got one too	Leon wasn't going to miss out	Marty got a trophy	and then another
then had to juggle them and his beer	Paul got a trophy	and so did Paul	Smiley took one home as well
Dennis thanked Bucky for the help to get there	Some just needed a beer	Mike couldn't believe he'd won a trophy	and that was the end of the excitement
