24th April 2012
Last weekend’s round two of the ASBK championship saw three of our local members, Olly Simpson, Daniel Falzon and Hudson Pitt, show the national racing competition just what SA can do!
Not to be put off by the extreme Darwin humidity, all three racers left their mark.
Young Olly’s weekend was bitter sweet, claiming the Superlites lap record in day one, from a far more experienced Josh Hook, had the crowd talking and waiting in anticipation of race one where he had claimed pole position. Olly led race one for 4 laps, when he unfortunately low slided at turn 5. A gallant Olly was up and off the track immediately so the race could continue, despite cradling his arm. Poor Olly has fractured a bone in his forearm but should manage to make the next round in Qld, early June. He returned to the track on Sunday complete with cast, sling and his trademark big smile.
Daniel’s performance over the weekend can only be described as sensational, claiming two new lap records in qualifying and race one. Pole position gave him the confidence and edge to take it through with three race wins. This outing has given Daniel a comfortable lead in the 600 superstock championship.
After facing a some braking problems early in the weekend, Hudson put in a solid performance putting himself in 7th position on the grid. On Sunday, things fell into place and he came through to claim third place in the Superlites final race, which also gave him a podium position for the weekend. A strong 3rd place in the championship points will carry him through to the next round.
All in all a very successful weekend for our members, we wish them all the best.
