The Club Tyre Changer |
30th January 2012 |
The club has bought a tyre changer and we are working with bike shops to increase the value of the club whilst getting ripper deals for racers and volunteers. Unfortunately in Australia we do not get the same support as in other countries like Britain and Spain but with ALL the members support we can build the sport and the level of mutual benefit to the club and bike shops; my mission as President is to make us valuable to bike shops and increase the shops profiles and service at the track in the future. I would like any of the bike shops in South Australia to be represented at EVERY race meeting and EVERY ride day to supply racers and track day riders with all peripherals that we need. This is going to take a bit of effort to build to something worthwhile to the bike shop and the club.

RACE REPORT ASBK Rd 5 Phillip Island 18 -20 Nov 2 |
18th December 2011 |

DANIEL FALZON and the JON DANIELS RACING TEAM have finished the season on a high, taking out 2nd place in the 600cc Superstock ASBK Championship, in their debut year. The weekend saw two race wins for Daniel, his first in the ASBK series.
An unusual race schedule for the final round of the series held at Phillip Island had qualifying late in the day on Friday. Daniel found the wet/dry conditions challenging, although early in the day saw a personal best time of 1:39.988 he was not able to get a clear lap in resulting in a 7th starting position for the remainder of the weekend.
Not to be deterred Daniel came back more determined on Saturday. As had been threatening all day, the skies opened just before the first race which caused havoc in the field of racers who could not decide upon wet or dry tyres and saw many come in desperately after the warm up lap, to change bikes.
A spectacular performance from Daniel who managed to power through the pouring rain to a comfortable second place then at the last turn took charge to take the lead from Sean Condon, and the win just over the finish line.
“I knew I could do it, I hadn’t had a win for the season and I desperately wanted it. He (Sean) was in my sights and I knew my bike was set up well for the conditions and had the confidence in the tyres to take the risk and push it a little harder through turn 12” - Daniel
Day three was again a winner, coming home with a strong second place and another win in race 3, taking Daniel’s final point score to 266 and securing the 2nd place Championship.
Next year Daniel has been asked to lead the Yamaha Race Development (YRD) team in its campaign to win the 600cc Superstock class.
JON DANIELS RACING would like to acknowledge all who have helped this season, it has again been very rewarding for us and we eagerly look forward to next year.
Our many thanks to – Yamaha Pitmans / Yamaha Race Development (YRD) / SW Racing / Ficeda imports / Belray oils / Berik leathers / Shark helmets - and also to our fellow racers and teams.
To our local supporters - Duncan Gordon (Adelaide Equity) /Online Refrigeration / Buildscope Developments / Blueprint Engineering / Maxton insurance / Clem Smith / family & friends – much appreciated.

Sissis stars on Spanish 125GP debut |
24th November 2011 |
Arthur Sissis has made an instant splash on his maiden Spanish 125GP Championship outing, finishing seventh in the sixth round in Valencia.
Riding for the Red Bull AJO Motorsports team, Sissis started from the sixth row of the grid after qualifying 18th fastest in his first taste of racing in Spain since the end of the 2011 Red Bull Rookies Cup.
In a brilliant performance from the Rookies Cup Championship Runner-Up, the teenager cut his way through the talented field to cross the line 11 places higher in seventh.
Fellow 125GP rider Samuel Rankin found the going more difficult and was forced to settle with a 35th place finish.
Fellow BRP Racing star Blake Leigh-Smith had a race to forget in the Moto2 class struggling to find the pace of the race and was not able to receive a classification after finishing more than a lap behind the winner.

Super Sic - Rest In Peace |
31st October 2011 |
The Team San Carlos Gresinin Honda rider was involved in a crash at the weekend’s Malaysian MotoGP, leading to the race being cancelled after two laps.
One of the most popular riders on the circuit, Simoncelli was well known for his big hair style and fun-loving personality.
In just his second season in the premier class Simoncelli recorded his best-ever result at the recent Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island, where he ran second to newly-crowned World Championship Casey Stoner.
The 24-year-old had forged a successful career coming through the 125cc ranks, spending four seasons on board an Aprilia before moving up to the 250cc class in 2006.
It was here on board the Gilera the Italian began to show his star quality, winning the 2008 250cc World Championship and finishing third the following season.
This consistent dominance opened the door for a shot at the big time in 2010.
Despite not finishing on a podium in his debut campaign Simoncelli won many plaudits for his aggressive racing style and bubbly demeanour off the bike.
2011 saw the Honda rider break on to the podium, with Phillip Island the venue of his greatest success at the highest level.
Simoncelli will be sorely missed by all in Motorcycle Sport.

Stoner WORLD CHAMPION after Aust MotoGP win |
23rd October 2011 |
Dominating from the first corner Stoner wasted no time putting significant daylight between himself and the chasing pack, holding a 2.976 second lead after just three laps.
This lead soon ballooned out to more than six and half seconds just 10 laps in as the likes Marco Simoncelli and Respol Honda teammates Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa battled it out for the minor podium positions.
Simoncelli led a charge to rein in the 2007 World Champion, cutting the lead to 4.420 seconds with nine laps remaining before Stoner put his foot to the throttle once more.
In the following two laps Stoner produced consecutive sub 1.32 minute laps to return his leading margin to more than 5.4 seconds and end any hope of a boil over.
The win was Stoner’s ninth of the season and an amazing 15th podium from the 16 rounds completed in 2011. Sporting 325 Championship points with two rounds still remaining, Stoner will have an eye on breaking his 2007 World Championship total of 367.

Davies wins Euro Junior Cup title |
18th October 2011 |
October 03, 2011
In its inaugural year, the Championship has attracted some of the world’s best up and coming riders and is seen as the World Superbike Championship’s equivalent to the Red Bull Rookies Cup.
Davies capped off a fantastic season, with a solid fourth in Magny-Cours ensuring that he would finish on top of the final standings some 23 points clear of the field.
After a slow start to the season Davies has been a model of consistency, recording wins in Britain and Germany as well as a host of podiums.
At just 15 years of age the rising star joins a growing list of Aussies who have won titles in 2011, including fellow teenager Jack Miller (IDM German 125GP Championship), Glen Richards (British EVO Class Championship) and Alex Cudlin (Qatar Road Racing Championship).

McConnell seals British Supersport top three |
18th October 2011 |
Billy McConnell fought off the overtures of fellow Aussie Paul Young to claim the third and final podium position as the 2011 British Supersport Championship drew to a close.
Holding a marginal lead over his countryman heading into the triple-header at Brand’s Hatch, McConnell didn’t enjoy his best weekend of results, but managed to maintain his lead.
A 5-5-9 result was enough to counter Young’s 3-7-7 and hold out for third overall, some 17 points clear of his compatriot.

Stoner rues missed opportunity |
4th October 2011 |
Aussie Casey Stoner has again left the title door ajar for rival Jorge Lorenzo, finishing behind the Spaniard at the Japanese MotoGP, as Dani Pedrosa claimed the chequered flag. It was business as usual for Stoner through qualifying as he again finished on pole and appeared on course for win number nine of the season before the brakes of his Repsol Honda failed to respond as he took one of the corners at the Motegi circuit. This saw Stoner run of the circuit, but he kept the bike upright and returned to the track back in seventh place. Showing his quality Stoner was quickly back in the top three, but was unable to catch teammate Pedrosa and Lorenzo. Stoner’s advantage was reduced to 40 points with a win at next weekend’s 2011 Australian MotoGP all-but sealing his second World Championship.

Debut to forget for Cudlin in Japan |
4th October 2011 |
Damian Cudlin’s MotoGP debut was one to forget, with the Pramac Racing Team rider’s day coming to an abrupt end after 13 laps. Earning a ride as the injury replacement for Italian Loris Capirossi, Cudlin performed admirably through practice and qualifying, but was unable to match the speed of the front runners. While Cudlin’s race won’t live long in the memory banks, Moto 2 rider Ant West will be happy with his 12th place finish. The MZ Racing star came from 22nd on the starting grid to record his third highest finish of the 2011 season and earn four Championship points. Jack Miller continued his learning experience with Moto 125 team Caretta KTM, finishing in 16th position just outside the Championship points. The newly-crowned German 125GP Champion started from 26th on the grid, but was quickly inside the top 20 as he weaved his way up 10 places by the race end.

Damian Cudlin to replace Capirossi in MotoGP at Mo |
4th October 2011 |
Pramac Ducati has announced that 28-year-old Australian Damian Cudlin will replace the injured Loris Capirossi in this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi.
"It's hard to put into words what this opportunity means to me," said Cudlin, whose MotoGP experience is limited to testing the 2012 BMW-powered Suter CRT bike.
"I've dreamed about starting in MotoGP since I was a boy, and until now it's be en just that- a dream. Now it's become a reality and to be honest, I'm still in shock!
"I'm under no illusions about how difficult this race will be. I've never ridden a real MotoGP bike before and I've never been to Motegi either, so realistically my expectations can't be too high. I just want to do the best job I can, enjoy the experience, and just see what happens. I've really got nothing to lose, so why not?
"I don't know what I've done to deserve this. I still can't believe I'll be replacing Loris Capirossi - I had posters of him on my wall as a kid!
"I just want to thank Sito Pons for recommending me, the Pramac Racing Team for giving me a chance, and also my current BMW Team for allowing me to use this opportunity. I hope I can make everyone proud that they took a chance with a guy like me."
Cudlin, a veteran of the World Endurance Championship, has made one previous grand prix start, in last year's German Moto2 Grand Prix, where he rode from 22nd on the grid to an impressive seventh.
Capirossi, who will retire at the end of this season, dislocated his right shoulder for a second time this year, at Aragon.
The Italian hopes to return for the final three races, following Japan.
